Preview: Loretto Mustangs vs. Mt. Pleasant Tigers
Loretto is 0-5 against Mt. Pleasant since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Loretto Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Mt. Pleasant Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Loretto sitting on nine straight victories and Mt. Pleasant on three.
Loretto can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They blew past Waverly Central 36-15. Loretto had a rough season last year, but they look ready to turn that poor record around this year.
Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant's game on Friday was all tied up 14-14 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They strolled past Hickman County with points to spare, taking the game 35-21.
Jakyri Mcclure was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 179 yards while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. Darien Meza got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Hickman County to a paltry 150 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mt. Pleasant's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Hardin Hughes and his two sacks.
Loretto's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.6 points per game. As for Mt. Pleasant, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.
Loretto came up short against Mt. Pleasant when the teams last played back in September of 2022, falling 32-21. Can Loretto avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
