Baseball Recap: Manville Mustangs vs. Hillsborough Raiders
Manville had lost four straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 9-9 to make it five. They came up short against the Hillsborough Raiders, falling 6-0. The shutout was out of character for the Mustangs seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.
Manville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
As for Hillsborough, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-10. They not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 8, 2024 (when they won 8-2).
On Hillsborough's side, the result came thanks to James Drinkwater's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Drinkwater.
On the hitting side, Andrew Advani was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Apoorva Nigam also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Coming up, Manville will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Princeton Day at 4:00 p.m. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.53 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hillsborough, they will challenge Somerville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
