Newman Central Catholic entered their tilt with St. Bede on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They pulled ahead with a 46-45 photo finish over the St. Bede Bruins. The Comets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bruins, too.

St. Bede's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lili McClain, who went 5 for 9 en route to 16 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Bray, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 11 points and seven boards.

Newman Central Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for St. Bede, they moved to 16-10 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Newman Central Catholic and St. Bede should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Newman Central Catholic will face off against Erie-Prophetstown at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday up 315 places (212 vs. 527). Similarly, St. Bede (ranked 183rd) will meet Henry-Senachwine (ranked 389th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
