Soccer Recap: Champaign Central Comes Up Short

Champaign Central managed to keep up with Normal University until halftime on Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Maroons came up short against the Pioneers, falling 3-0. While losing is never fun, Champaign Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Normal University are ranked 31st).

This is the second loss in a row for Champaign Central and nudges their season record down to 6-4. As for Normal University, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2-1 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Champaign Central will face off against Urbana at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Champaign Central will be up against Urbana's rather soft defense (which has allowed 3.38 goals per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Normal University, they will take on Centennial at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
