Basketball Recap: Telfair County Skates Past Wheeler County with Ease

Telfair County won the last time they faced Wheeler County and things went their way on Saturday too. The Telfair County Trojans took their contest with ease, bagging a 57-29 win over the Wheeler County Bulldogs. The Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 21 points or more this season.

Telfair County was led to victory by Ty'Kristiany Jones and Trynitee Newson. Jones posted 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals, while Newson put up 13 points and three steals. Jones continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ty'Teionna Jones, who had six points and three steals.

Telfair County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 18 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Wheeler County's loss came despite strong showings from Makaylin Harvey and Shiann Carey. Harvey scored six points and nine boards, while Carey earned eight points along with six rebounds and three steals. Carey is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Nikita James was another key player, putting up 15 points and seven boards.

Telfair County's record is now 13-3. As for Wheeler County, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.

Telfair County will host Treutlen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Telfair County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season. As for Wheeler County, they will head out on the road to square off against Wilcox County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wilcox County will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something Wheeler County surely won't give up without a fight.
