Baseball Game Preview: Hilbert Wolves vs. Reedsville Panthers

The Hilbert Wolves will face off against the Reedsville Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

Saturday just wasn't the day for Hilbert's offense. They lost 8-0 to Brillion on Saturday. The Wolves' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Reedsville never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah on Friday. They blew past the Resorters 12-2. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Resorters recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Lucas Lodel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Lodel was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Nathan Christensen was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three doubles and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Kodie Bubolz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Reedsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Reedsville's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Hilbert, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hilbert has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Reedsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Hilbert couldn't quite finish off Reedsville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 8-6. Can the Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
