Softball Game Preview: Mathews Blue Devils vs. Northampton Yellowjackets

The Mathews Blue Devils will challenge the Northampton Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mathews has given up an average of 11.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Mathews' offense. They lost 11-0 to Gloucester on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Blue Devils' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Northampton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Nandua, falling 14-4.

Ortavia Rogers was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Kelsey Hearn was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Northampton's loss dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Mathews, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-8 record this season.

Mathews took their win against Northampton in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 20-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
