Softball Recap: Cedarcrest Comes Up Short

Cedarcrest fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against North Creek on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on April 2nd.

Lily Rafferty spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 19 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Maddie Davis made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Cedarcrest and nudges their season record down to 6-10-1. As for North Creek, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-1.

Looking ahead, Cedarcrest will challenge Newport - Bellevue at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 11.5 runs per game this season. As for North Creek, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Inglemoor at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
