Softball Recap: Brookfield Central Takes a Loss

Brookfield Central extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 11-6 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Germantown Warhawks. The Lancers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warhawks earlier this season, when they won 4-2.

Lexi Eichhorn put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Norma Glisczinski made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Gracie Seymour, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for Germantown, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games.

On Germantown's side, the team relied heavily on Ella Saltarikos, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Saltarikos a new career-high. Audrey Mowery also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

While Brookfield Central had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
