Baseball Game Preview: Tahoka Bulldogs vs. Gruver Greyhounds

The Tahoka Bulldogs will take on the Gruver Greyhounds on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Tahoka comes in on three and Gruver on 17.

Tahoka is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Sudan 14-5. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Brogan Stone made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Stone was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Tahoka let Jordan Hicks and Sam Kessler run wild. Hicks got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Kessler got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Hicks has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Cayden Gutierrez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Tahoka always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sudan only posted an OBP of .429.

Meanwhile, Gruver owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lockney, sneaking past 1-0. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Greyhounds have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Gruver's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 11.4 runs thus far. As for Tahoka, their record is now 12-9.
