Baseball Recap: Grafton Comes Up Short

After flying high against Slinger on Monday, Grafton came back down to earth. The Black Hawks fell just short of the Owls by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday. The Black Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Owls earlier this season, when they won 13-6.

Ryan Butts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Grafton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton McKinney, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Grafton moved to 10-6 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Slinger, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.

Grafton and Slinger should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Black Hawks (ranked 23rd) will meet Sheboygan North (ranked 142nd) at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Slinger will face off against Cedarburg at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (37 vs. 205).
