Softball Game Preview: Roosevelt Rough Riders vs. Bravo Knights

The Roosevelt Rough Riders will take on the Bravo Knights at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Roosevelt has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 1st.

Roosevelt's tournament run continued when they took on Leuzinger on Saturday. Roosevelt fell just short of Leuzinger by a score of 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Rough Riders have lost by just one run.

Meanwhile, Bravo had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past Sotomayor 17-2 on Wednesday.

Hazel Medrano made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Medrano was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alany Mendoza, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Katherine Nungaray was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4.

Roosevelt's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Bravo, they pushed their record up to 1-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Roosevelt came out on top in a nail-biter against Bravo when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Roosevelt since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
