Basketball Recap: Robert Towns' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Paul Robeson over Simon Gratz

In Thursday's Canine Competition, Paul Robeson didn't have enough. They took a 63-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Simon Gratz Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Huskies of the 68-52 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Paul Robeson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Robert Towns, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Towns a new career-high in boards. Kobe Butler was another key player, going 7 for 15 en route to 15 points and six rebounds.

Simon Gratz's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nasir Mackely, who posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jadon Martin, who earned 15 points.

The loss snapped Paul Robeson's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 14-5 record. As for Simon Gratz, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Paul Robeson has already played their next game, a 70-58 win against Roxborough on the 25th. As for Simon Gratz, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 59-56 victory against Murrell Dobbins Vo-Tech on the 25th.
