Baseball Recap: River Valley Takes a Loss

River Valley fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Portage on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Panthers have suffered since April 16, 2024.

Merreck Smith made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.

River Valley's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Portage, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. River Valley will host Greater Johnstown at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Portage, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Homer-Center at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
