Baseball Recap: Augusta Starts Season with Win Against Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington

Augusta took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington Blue Jays with a sharp 18-5 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Grayson Miller and Keeton Bach made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Miller tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bach struck out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Miller a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At the plate, Miller scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Bach went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Griffin Miller was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Austin Kiskaden, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

We've got a battle between Panthers coming up. Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Georgetown at 1:00 p.m. on March 29th. Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington has now lost 17 straight dating back to last season, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 23rd.
