Basketball Recap: Roanoke Valley Christian Wins Going Away Against Regents

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Roanoke Valley Christian's strategy against Regents on Friday. The Roanoke Valley Christian EAGLES took down the Regents Lions 48-34. For the EAGLES, this counts as revenge for the 72-53 victory the Lions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2022.

Roanoke Valley Christian had a senior duo take command as Luke Somers went 6 for 10 en route to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals and Logan Gutierrez went 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points and six boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Gutierrez has scored at least a third of Roanoke Valley Christian's points. Another player making a difference was Zach Mioduszewski, who posted six points.

Despite the loss, Regents still got an impressive performance from David Shonka, who had 12 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Morris Hoffman, who put up ten points.

Roanoke Valley Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. As for Regents, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-2.

Roanoke Valley Christian will challenge Faith Christian at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. Faith Christian will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Roanoke Valley Christian surely won't give up without a fight. As for Regents, they will head out on the road to square off against Mt. Carmel Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Regents is facing Mt. Carmel Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Mt. Carmel Christian Academy is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
