Basketball Recap: Phelps Comes Up Short

After flying high against Prestonsburg on Tuesday, Phelps came back down to earth. The Hornets fell 75-63 to the Shelby Valley Wildcats on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, with their most recent loss being a 71-61 defeat on January 3rd.

Despite the loss, Phelps still got an impressive performance from Tyler Weddington, who dropped a double-double with 30 points and 18 boards. The game was Weddington's 20th in a row with at least 15 points. Andrew Caines was another key player, putting up 18 points.

Phelps' loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Shelby Valley, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.

Coming up, Phelps will be playing in front of their home fans against Pike County Central at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Shelby Valley, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against KACHEA at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. KACHEA will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Shelby Valley surely won't give up without a fight.
