Softball Recap: Fort Dorchester Has No Trouble Against Goose Creek

While Fort Dorchester didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-9), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Goose Creek Gators on Tuesday as the Fort Dorchester Patriots made off with a 16-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Gators: they've now won four in a row.

Mila Lorenzano was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Fort Dorchester got a massive performance out of Destiny Copeland, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Copeland hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Greatrex, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.

Fort Dorchester was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Fort Dorchester's record is now 6-0. As for Goose Creek, they dropped their record down to 1-3 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Dorchester will take on Hanahan at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Goose Creek, they will square off against West Ashley at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Goose Creek has given up an average of 13 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
