Baseball Recap: Greater Vision Academy Takes a Loss

Greater Vision Academy extended their losing streak to seven on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-8 in the process. They lost 14-2 to the Walkertown Wolfpack. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolfpack this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 24-0 back in March.

As for Walkertown, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 16-6. The result was nothing new for the Wolfpack, who have now won 13 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

For Walkertown's part, David Olmedo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Olmedo has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Walkertown's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 13-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Cam Smith was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Manny Morales, who earned two runs and three stolen bases.

Coming up, Greater Vision Academy will venture away from home to challenge Riverside Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on May 1. As for Walkertown, they will welcome Leadership Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolfpack's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 7.8 runs per game this season.
