Baseball Game Preview: Campbellsport Cougars vs. Living Word Lutheran Timberwolves

The Campbellsport Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Living Word Lutheran Timberwolves at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Campbellsport is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Campbellsport took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Kettle Moraine Lutheran, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars skirted past the Chargers 4-3. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by just one run.

Campbellsport got a great performance from Owen Bong as he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brody Nolan, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Cullen Reis also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Living Word Lutheran came up short against Martin Luther on Saturday and fell 12-9. The Timberwolves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gavin Weissenburger made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. Another player making a difference was Gavin LaPerriere, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Campbellsport's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average this season. As for Living Word Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Campbellsport has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Living Word Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.2 strikeouts.
