Softball Recap: American Fork Cavemen vs. Westlake Thunder
American Fork extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 8-12 in the process. They lost 19-3 to the Westlake Thunder. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Thunder this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-1 on April 8th.
American Fork saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Jensen, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Kennedy McKinney, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.
As for Westlake, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.
On Westlake's side, Lynlee Sperry was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Sperry was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Westlake got a massive performance out of Addison Conder, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Those seven RBI gave Conder a new career-high. Lexi Hilton was another key player, going 3-for-4 with five runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. American Fork will host Cedar at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cavemen's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Reds have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Westlake, they will be playing at home against Uintah at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Thunder have won seven straight at home, while the Utes won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
