Softball Recap: Caledonia-Mumford Wins Going Away Against Byron-Bergen

Caledonia-Mumford had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Byron-Bergen on Saturday. The Raiders blew past the Bees 17-1. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Raiders considering their two-run performance the match before.

Grace Beach and Kylie Padlick -Field made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Beach struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Padlick -Field pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Beach has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Beach went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI, while Padlick -Field went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI.

In other batting news, Colleen Talty and Audrey Padlick-Field did most of the damage at the plate: Talty went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Padlick-Field went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Lynn, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Caledonia-Mumford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Caledonia-Mumford has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Byron-Bergen, they dropped their record down to 4-11 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Caledonia-Mumford wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 14-4 win against York on the 10th. As for Byron-Bergen, they will host Elba at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bees are facing the Lancers at the right time seeing as the Lancers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
