With a playoff win on the line, Gloucester rose to the challenge on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past the Smithfield Packers 4-3. The victory was familiar territory for the Dukes, who have now won 11 matchups in a row.

Gloucester got a great performance from Brayden Scott as he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Hank Hardaway was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Gloucester's win bumped their record up to 20-4. As for Smithfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.

Gloucester will take on Hampton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Dukes 3, the Crabbers 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Smithfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
