The Curtis Vikings will head out to face off against the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Curtis has given up an average of 18.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Curtis came up short against Olympia on Monday, falling 20-7. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost nine in a row.
Melanie Spivey was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Soleil Sloboda, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Graham-Kapowsin made easy work of Bonney Lake last Friday and carried off an 11-1 victory. Considering the Eagles have won four games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Brooklyn Pettit made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, MaKena Rodgers was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Makayla Young also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Graham-Kapowsin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Graham-Kapowsin has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Curtis, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-11.
Curtis suffered a grim 30-3 defeat to Graham-Kapowsin when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
