Basketball Recap: Edison Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Edison won the last time they faced Mount Vernon and things went their way on Friday too. The Edison Eagles walked away with a 57-49 victory over the Mount Vernon Majors. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Majors are ranked 317th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Edison's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Mount Vernon, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Edison Eagles challenge the Hayfield Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mount Vernon, they will take on Falls Church at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
