Softball Recap: Orem Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Orem duked it out with Payson on Tuesday. The Tigers fell just short of the Lions by a score of 8-7. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Kiley Hoshnic spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hannah Maylett was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kate Allred, who went 1-for-5 with one home run.

Orem's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Payson, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-2.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Orem is set to square off against their familiar foe Mountain View at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Payson will face off against rival Uintah at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
