Softball Game Preview: Trigg County Wildcats vs. Lyon County Lyons

The Trigg County Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Lyon County Lyons at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Trigg County will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Trigg County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They walked away with a 14-10 win over Union County on Saturday.

The team relied heavily on Veyda Grinols, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Makenna Hendricks was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs.

Trigg County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Lyon County suffered their closest defeat since May 11, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Livingston Central by a score of 4-2. The loss continues a trend for the Lyons in their meetings with the Cardinals: they've now lost three in a row.

Ava Prow spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Olivia Moore was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. Lilly Perry also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Trigg County's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lyon County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Trigg County beat Lyon County 4-1 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
