After losing to Unalakleet the last time they met, Cordova decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cordova Wolverines escaped with a win on Thursday against the Unalakleet Wolfpack by the margin of a single free throw, 53-52. The win was all the more spectacular given the Wolverines' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alaska basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Wolfpack are ranked tenth).

Cordova's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chiko Jacob, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 16 boards. Blake Bailey was another key player, putting up 15 points.

The win (which was Cordova's third in a row) raised their record to 9-5. As for Unalakleet, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4.

Cordova has already played their next game, a 53-40 victory against Metlakatla on the 21st. As for Unalakleet, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 51-40 win against Unalaska on the 21st.
