Softball Recap: Elkhart Takes a Loss

Elkhart had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 8-10 to make it five. They came up short against the Penn Kingsmen, falling 10-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Lions have suffered since April 17, 2024.

Elkhart saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Knight, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Knight has hit this season.

As for Penn, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

On Penn's side, Olivia Signorino tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Signorino has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Penn got a massive performance out of Logan Rumble, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Rumble has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Zachary, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

While Elkhart had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
