Softball Game Preview: Mountainside Wolves vs. Wickenburg Wranglers

The Mountainside Wolves will challenge the Wickenburg Wranglers at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountainside comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Mountainside lost 20-5 to Salome on Friday.

Wickenburg never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Glendale Prep Academy on Monday. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Griffins. Considering the Wranglers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Maleigh Colvin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ariel Sprecher, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Molly Melfi, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Wickenburg pushed their record up to 11-11 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Mountainside, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.
