The Nekoosa Papermakers will square off against the Tri-County Penguins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Nekoosa took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Port Edwards with a sharp 26-6 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Papermakers needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Bristal Brock made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Brock was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Nekoosa got a massive performance out of Montana Rowe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, five RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Rowe has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Boerboom, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Nekoosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .824. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Tri-County made easy work of Port Edwards on Thursday and carried off a 16-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Penguins.
Like Nekoosa, Tri-County also got a great game from a two-way player: Paitton Rothermel. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Rothermel was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, Kaylee Goman was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season. Addyson Rettler was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
The win got Tri-County back to even at 5-5. As for Nekoosa, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
Everything went Nekoosa's way against Tri-County in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as Nekoosa made off with a 19-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Papermakers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
