Basketball Recap: Logan Gemes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Warsaw over Lawson

If Warsaw was riding high fresh off their 55-18 takedown of Santa Fe two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Warsaw Wildcats took a 47-29 bruising from the Lawson Cardinals on Saturday. The match marked the Wildcats' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Warsaw's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Gemes, who posted six points and four steals. Gemes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Luke Henderson, who put up six points.

Isaac Willoughby was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 13 boards for Lawson. That makes it three consecutive games in which Willoughby has scored at least a third of Lawson's points. Chase Jones was another key player, putting up six points along with six assists and six boards.

With the loss, Warsaw broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4. As for Lawson, they moved to 3-8 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Warsaw will challenge El Dorado Springs at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lawson, they will square off against Trenton at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lawson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50 points per game this season.
