Softball Recap: Cumberland Takes a Loss

Cumberland and Paris squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Cumberland had to settle for second. They fell 8-5 to the Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-3 back in March.

Kinley McMechan and Ashton Tolen stepped up to the plate in a big way. McMechan got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Tolen went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Tolen has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Carr, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Cumberland has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-18 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Paris, their victory bumped their record up to 12-18.

As of now, neither Cumberland nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
