Baseball Recap: Youngker Wins Going Away Against Ironwood

Youngker never let their opponents score on Thursday. They blew past the Ironwood Eagles 9-0. The Roughriders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by nine runs or more this season.

Not much got past Derrick Linley, who gave up just seven hits and racked up six Ks to keep Ironwood off the board. What's more, Linley gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Youngker's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mason Grado, who scored a run while going 3-for-5. Another was Riley Carteno, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Grado wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Youngker kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Youngker and bumps their season record up to 4-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.5 runs. As for Ironwood, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Youngker will host La Joya Community at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. La Joya Community has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.33 runs per game on average), something Youngker will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ironwood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Canyon at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
