Basketball Preview: Springfield Bulldogs vs. St. Helena College and Career Academy Hawks
Springfield has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the St. Helena College and Career Academy Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Springfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Tuesday.
Springfield pushed their score all the way to 56, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Northlake Christian 62-56. Springfield has not had much luck with the Wolverines recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Springfield's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Tobias McGee, who scored 16 points along with six assists and two steals, and Caden Dykes who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals. Robert Culbertson was another key contributor, scoring five points.
Meanwhile, St. Helena College and Career Academy was able to grind out a solid win over the Jaguars on Tuesday, taking the game 53-43. The victory made it back-to-back wins for St. Helena College and Career Academy.
Springfield's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-16. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for St. Helena College and Career Academy, their win bumped their record up to 8-11.
Springfield lost to the Hawks on the road by a decisive 62-48 margin when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Springfield avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
