Softball Recap: Blackford Comes Up Short

Blackford extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They fell 5-1 to the Oak Hill Golden Eagles. The Bruins were not able to make up for their loss to the Golden Eagles from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Oak Hill, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

For Oak Hill's part, Karsyn Wiley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. Wiley has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ry-Ry Myers and Jolee Hawkins did most of the damage at the plate: Myers went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Hawkins went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Myers a new career-high. Maddie Archer was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Blackford will square off against Mississinewa at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oak Hill, they will take on Whitko at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
