Basketball Preview: Sunnyside Wildcats vs. Torres Toros
Sunnyside is 4-0 against the Toros since November of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Sunnyside Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Torres Toros at 6:30 p.m. Sunnyside has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 803 points over their last 12 matches.
Last Wednesday, Sunnyside made easy work of the Warriors and carried off a 76-50 win. Given Sunnyside's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Warriors are ranked 717th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cj Jones was nothing short of spectacular: he scored 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Malachi Barnes was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Meanwhile, Torres was beaten by the Patriots 86-48 on Wednesday. Torres has struggled against the Patriots recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Sunnyside is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Torres, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-14.
Everything went Sunnyside's way against the Toros when the teams last played back in January as the Wildcats made off with a 65-43 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sunnyside since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
