Football Recap: Mitchell Comes Up Short

Mitchell had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-5 to make it five. They fell 22-11 to the Kearney Catholic Stars. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Stars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Mitchell lost, don't look at Michael Plasencio. Despite the final result, he rushed for 89 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries.

As for Kearney Catholic, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.3 points on average this season.

Kearney Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jacob Bosshamer led the charge by throwing for 166 yards and a pair of TDs. Another player making a difference was Cole Burg, who picked up 76 receiving yards and one score.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mitchell will challenge rival Amherst at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Kearney Catholic is set to square off against their familiar foe Hershey at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
