Preview: South Davidson Wildcats vs. West Davidson Dragons

The South Davidson Wildcats have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the West Davidson Dragons at 12:00 p.m. on December 27th. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around on Wednesday.

South Davidson struggled with assists on Wednesday (Chatham Central had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. South Davidson was outmatched by Chatham Central at home and fell 62-32. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for South Davidson in their matchups with Chatham Central: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the defeat, South Davidson had strong showings from Kayra Hulin, who scored 23 points along with seven rebounds, and Shayna Freeze, who scored two points along with nine rebounds. Hulin scored a full 71.9% of South Davidson's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Meanwhile, West Davidson's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. Their tough 60-40 loss to Central Davidson might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, West Davidson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while Central Davidson is ranked 182nd).

South Davidson bumped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.5 points per game. As for West Davidson, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

South Davidson beat West Davidson 48-39 in their previous matchup back in February. Will South Davidson repeat their success, or does West Davidson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
