Baseball Recap: Inter-City Baptist Comes Up Short

Inter-City Baptist had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-6 to make it four. They came up short against the Ecorse Raiders, falling 13-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chargers of the 11-4 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Ecorse, their record now sits at 12-4. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won 11 games by nine runs or more so far this season.

For Ecorse's part, Jefferson De La Cruz made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts De La Cruz has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games he's played.

In other batting news, Korry Buxton and Jermiah Mack did most of the damage at the plate: Buxton got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Mack went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs Buxton has posted since back in April of 2024. Julio Nunez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Inter-City Baptist beat Ecorse by a score of 5-4 later that day.
