Basketball Recap: Woodland Park Falls Despite Big Games from Zach Summeril and Joseph Johnson

Woodland Park lost against Salida back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Woodland Park Panthers received a blow as they fell 51-37 to the Salida Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while the Spartans are ranked 87th).

Despite the defeat, Woodland Park had strong showings from Joseph Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Zach Summeril, who posted nine points and seven boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Woodland Park and nudges their season record down to 3-7. As for Salida, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.

Woodland Park wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 51-34 loss against Buena Vista on the 22nd. As for Salida, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 75-49 win against James Irwin on the 22nd.
