Softball Game Preview: Silver Lake Eagles vs. Hiawatha Red Hawks

The Silver Lake Eagles will head out to take on the Hiawatha Red Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

While Silver Lake's victory against Perry-Lecompton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Kaws 10-8. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Kaws: they've now won nine in a row.

Meanwhile, Hiawatha hadn't done well against Royal Valley recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Red Hawks blew past the Panthers 15-0. The Red Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Hiawatha is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Silver Lake, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.

Silver Lake took their victory against Hiawatha in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
