Recap: West Clermont Wolves vs. Milford Eagles
The West Clermont Wolves had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They rang in the new year with a 60-52 victory over Milford. That's another feather in the cap for West Clermont, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
West Clermont's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Layla Hale, who scored 16 points along with three steals. Hale has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Meagyn Riffle, who scored nine points along with ten assists and five steals.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gabby Chadwell, who scored 16 points along with six steals. Chadwell scored a full 30.8% of Milford's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Violet Shuluga was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Milford struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as West Clermont pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
West Clermont pushed their record up to 10-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Milford, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
West Clermont has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Turpin at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th. As for Milford, they will head out on the road to face off against Archbishop McNicholas at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Archbishop McNicholas will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 191st, while Milford is ranked 43rd).
