Football Recap: Sabino Falls to Valley Christian in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Sabino had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took an 18-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Valley Christian Trojans on Friday. The Sabercats gained 62 more yards on the day, but it was the Trojans that made the best use of them.

When it comes to explaining why Sabino lost, don't look at Zachari Haley. Despite the final result, he rushed for 147 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 50 receiving yards and one TD.

Sabino didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Anthony Dimas.

Valley Christian was led to victory by Caleb Goldman and Asher Hanzal. Goldman rushed for 163 yards and one score on only 13 carries, while Hanzal picked up 63 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Those 163 rushing yards gave Goldman a new career-high.

Looking ahead, Sabino will square off against Gilbert Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley Christian, they will take on Show Low at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
