Baseball Game Preview: Ponderosa Mustangs vs. Vista Ridge Wolves

The Ponderosa Mustangs will face off against the Vista Ridge Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Ponderosa's favor as the squad sits on five straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Vista Ridge has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

While Ponderosa's victory against Loveland wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Red Wolves on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Red Wolves: they've now won three in a row.

Nick Moe looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Isai Santaella was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Ponderosa: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Crown, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Vista Ridge lost 16-2 to Pine Creek on Saturday.

Izeah Brinck-Torres was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Ponderosa's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Vista Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.

Ponderosa was able to grind out a solid victory over Vista Ridge in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 12-9. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
