Softball Recap: Carmel Victorious

Carmel's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Lawrence North Wildcats by a score of 5-1. The Greyhounds have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Emily Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Jayden Kleiner was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Winni Owens, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Carmel's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Lawrence North, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Looking ahead, Carmel will be playing at home against Noblesville at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Millers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Greyhounds surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lawrence North, they will square off against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
