Softball Game Preview: La Joya Community Fighting Lobos vs. Youngker Roughriders

La Joya Community is 0-3 against Youngker since April of 2015 but things could change on Friday. La Joya Community will be playing at home against Youngker at 3:45 p.m. One thing working in La Joya Community's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups.

On Thursday, La Joya Community got the win against Sierra Linda by a conclusive 17-3. That's two games straight that the Fighting Lobos have won by exactly 14 runs.

Isabel Soares made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had over her last ten games.

In other batting news, Anaya Romero and Mariah Lozano did most of the damage at the plate: Romero went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Lozano went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Lozano a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Makayla Gutierrez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

La Joya Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Youngker's offense. They came up short against Centennial on Wednesday, falling 22-0. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Roughriders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

La Joya Community is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. Youngker's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
