Basketball Game Preview: Lone Tree Lions vs. Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves

The Lone Tree Lions will venture away from home to face off against the Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

It was a proper cat-fight when Lone Tree duked it out withColumbus on Friday. Lone Tree took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Columbus. The Lions' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Winfield-Mt. Union was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss. They took a 37-22 bruising from Holy Trinity Catholic. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while the Crusaders are ranked 89th).

Lone Tree's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Winfield-Mt. Union, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.

Everything came up roses for Lone Tree against Winfield-Mt. Union in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 68-18 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lone Tree since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
