Baseball Recap: Martin County Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Martin County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs, sneaking past 6-5. That's two games straight that the Tigers have won by just one run.

Joseph Cuccurullo tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Will Perry, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamai Purce, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Martin County lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Martin County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. Dr. Joaquin Garcia moved to 7-7 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Martin County will face off against Mount Dora Christian Academy at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Martin County has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
