Softball Recap: Southwest SD Raiders vs. San Ysidro Cougars

Southwest SD had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 9-7 to make it four. They fell just short of the San Ysidro Cougars by a score of 18-17. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, with their most recent loss being a 22-10 defeat back in April.

Southwest SD got a massive performance out of Mykaela Gonzalez, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Janelle Shippley, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As for San Ysidro, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 12-7 record. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since February 28th.

On San Ysidro's side, the team relied heavily on Lizette Herrera, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. Those five hits gave Herrera a new career-high. Mary Ellen Valenzuela was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Southwest SD is taking a road trip to take on Montgomery at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for San Ysidro, they will welcome Castle Park at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
